1 preheat oven to 375
2 butter and flour 3 baking sheets (if you have non stick not needed)
3 in a large bowl beat the butter with a mixer till fluffy. Add the brown sugar and cream until light and smooth. Add the eggs beating well, add the molasses and beat in.
4 In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the mixture, stir to blend. Add raisins and nuts, dont overmix.
5. Form the dough into long log shapes (1" wide). Place no more than 2 on each baking sheet. Space the logs wide apart, they will spread while baking. Brush with beaten egg to glaze.
6. Bake in the center of the oven about 12 minutes until golden (dough will still be soft). Timing can be 10-14 depending on the oven. Cool and then slice into 2 inch wide pieces. |
