Dessert

2 (3 ounce) packages strawberry Jell-O gelatin dessert (or one large pkg)
2 cups boiling water
2 (10 ounce) package frozen sliced strawberries in syrup, thawed, drained (reserve liquid)
1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained (reserve liquid)
3 medium bananas, sliced
1 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)
1 pint sour cream (optional)

1 Using a strainer placed over a bowl, drain the strawberries and pineapple, reserving 2 cups of the fruit juice.
2 Dissolve jello in boiling water.
3 Add 2 cups reserved fruit juice. (If you do not have enough juice from the fruit, add cold water).
4 Add the sliced bananas, drained strawberries, and drained crushed pineapple. (IF you are not using the sour cream, mix in walnuts, then pour entire batch into 9x13 dish and skip to final step).
5 Pour half the jello mixture into a 9x13 dish.
6 Refrigerate until set. Do not refrigerate the remaining jello mixture in the bowl-otherwise it will begin to set.
7 Spread set layer with the sour cream and sprinkle with walnuts (if using). Pour remaining jello mixture over sour cream layer.
8 Refrigerate several hours. This sets up best overnight.
