potatoes slice thin (1/8 inch or so)
onion sliced
garlic sliced
butter
gruyere/swiss optional
foil

Lay out a piece of foil (large enough to make a packet)
layer a good layer of potatoes, followed by a good layer of onion
place several pads of butter on top (dont skimp)
sprinkle with cheese if using
add another layer of onion and potato
add salt/pepper and anything else you like
seal the packet
place on the grill for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping 1/2 way through
You can go a little longer if you prefer them crispy
Remove, open the packet and serve
